A Day in the Life of a Wedding Planner

A mother’s love for her daughter and visa versa

“As a Wedding Planner, our goal is to make the planning process as easy as possible to insure both of you enjoy the most incredible wedding day.  Is my goal for every wedding I have the honor of being a part of.  It is a life long dream for some, a romantic love story for others and a we knew it from first glance for others.”

I remember the day I met Rachel and her mom Sylvia.  Rachel had been through a terrible divorce that drained not only her bank account, but her self confidence.  So with little to go on, Rachel decided to take her mom’s offer and move back in to her family home.  After several years, Rachel met the man of her dreams, it was love at first site and she did not want to wait long to get married.  Rachel & Sylvia decided to hire a wedding planner soon after the engagement as they had different ideas on where, when & decor for the wedding.  I remember sitting at the table feeling like the net on a ping pong table.  So to stop the madness, I wrote down a list for them on items they either needed to agree on or to assign a task for each person.  Sit on the list for a few days and go back to it to make sure they were both happy with the tasks on hand.  Secretly, I had a one/one talk with Sylvia, mom to mom.  She felt like she was paying for the wedding and wanted control.  I reminded her that she had her wedding and that it was Rachel’s turn and since her love was unconditional, so should her contribution.  After sleeping on my suggestion, Rachel and Sylvia came to an understanding and the real work of wedding planning began. 

I love getting to know my wedding couples and their families, even before the planning starts.  Every family brings a different love story and every family finds a way to have the wedding of their dreams.  This story just proves that a mom’s dream for her daughter and a daughter’s love for her mom can overcome any obstical if both are willing to give and take even just a little.  Really what they both found out during the planning process is that both dreams were really the same.  One year to the day later, we had a beautiful outdoor ceremony and indoor reception creating memories that will last a lifetime!  And “Top Shelf Wedding Planners” got to breath yet another sigh of relief knowing another happy couple are on their way to happily ever after!
